Bedtime

Why do I have to go to bed?

I'm not tired at all!

Check my closet for Monsters,

And leave the light on in the hall!

Teddy needs a kiss goodnight

I think I need a drink

No, I didn't brush my teeth,

I couldn't reach the sink.

If you'll tell another story,

I promise I'll go to bed.

Wait! I have to go to the bathroom

And I think my fish needs fed.

I need to go kiss Grandpa

And I don't think it'll keep.

I've now got all my errands run,

I guess I'll go to sleep.

Dreamstate

All at once
I started up
Noticing the time

Four o’clock
Naught is will
As if this room weren’t mine

To my own bed
I did retire
Twas slightly past midnight

I recognize not
This gloomy hall
I see in candlelight

Memory tugs
At the edge of my thoughts
But still I cannot touch

The fragmented edges
Of that dream
Of which I thought so much

Who should I ask
To lead the way
Out of this madcap scene?

I find no one
I am alone
And so, on I dream

The nightmarish world
Where I’ve been cast
Feels so much like home

Yet in my soul
I truly know,
Here, I do not belong

So I turn morosely
To the room
From which I’ve just come

To sleep, to dream
And to await
The arrival of the sun
